El verb mentir es pot conjugar indistintament com servir, és a dir, amb l'increment -eix- (-esc-, -ix-, -isc-) en les tres persones del singular i la tercera del plural del present d'indicatiu, el present de subjuntiu i l'imperatiu, o bé com dormir, és a dir, sense aquest increment:
